Understanding the Digital Technologies Curriculum: 7-10

Ass. Professor Nick Falkner from Adelaide University will present this session on the creation of a Digital Technologies Curriculum.  Discussion will be based around the CSER MOOC - https://csermoocs.adelaide.edu.au/

Suitable for secondary teachers and curriculum leaders who are interested implementing the Digital Technologies Curriculum as outlined in the Australian Curriculum.

The workshop will include such topics as project management, game making and app development in relation to the Australian Curriculum.

Nick Falkner will start the evening’s proceedings with a review of the MOOC offerings that support Digital Technologies, to frame the 7&8 and 9&10 MOOCs. Nick will then discuss the new 7&8 course and go through the key new concepts, with short workshop activities to identify how some of the lessons can be turned into practical classroom outcomes. He’ll discuss the project focus and why we focus on building larger programs as we move into secondary. Nick will then go through the 9&10 Explore MOOC in more detail, discussing some of the implications of the general purpose programming language, sharing experiences from the consultation group when the examples were being developed, and working with participants to develop practical approaches to implementing the curriculum in their own classrooms.

Nick suggested ..."The secondary courses are where students can take the knowledge they’ve developed so far and turn this into projects that they can show to their friends and family. The later years have a game focus that we hope will really engage students and make it enjoyable to develop their digital knowledge"
